"So...

Posted on May 1st, 2008 by OK : Ready OK
... what are you ready for"? comes the question from someone here at Gaia (referring to the title on my home page). Good question that.

So I suppose at this time the answer I would give is that I'm ready for  -This-  in whatever form (and lack thereof) it is currently arising in this most ordinary of moments. Exactly the way it is and no longer obscured by a story of some exciting future event or by any interpretation carried from the past. Ready for reality.

This reminds me of the Tarrant quote I posted. It's the same sense of open, uncluttered attention that arises. A sense of total, immediate availability. Of “yes”. That's what I've always thought whenever I see your avatar and title.

Thanks,
When I see yours my first thoughts are  mysterious,  humorous,  thoughtful  :)

The author Susan Murphy in Upside-down Zen talks about a book called Impro. It's an improvisational manual for actors.  And much of this book contains the Dharma, says Murphy. In improvisation, to keep the game going, the play, you have to say yes. To say no is to begin to kill the improvisation. She says the trick is to accept all offers. To quote Murphy, “so accepting all offers is a form of wanting nothing-it's like the other side of the one hand.  On one side, it is accepting all offers; on the other side, wanting nothing. When you want nothing, when you can truly want nothing, then everything can be there at last…”  This is a hard “act” to follow.  Of course, OK,  there's always tap dancing. :0).

Cool, Ron. I like the improv twist because so often I hear an emphasis on passive acceptance that can feel kind of static and dry. This idea contains the sense of total acceptance, but also appreciation, and the notion of running with something, participating, and being creative. We're here to dance, aren't we?

Oooh perfect. It's very clear in that example how saying no would immediately start blocking the flow. And yes, you're right, there is -always- tap dancing :)
